Frequently Asked Questions
- What is TranscribeGlass and how does it work?
TranscribeGlass is an affordable and comfortable wearable assistive technology device for d/Deaf, Hard of Hearing (HoH), elderly, and other people who want to improve their comprehension of spoken communication using captions. It projects closed captions from a variety of sources on to a heads-up display in the user’s field of vision in near-real-time, thereby greatly enhancing their ability to understand what is being said.
The TranscribeGlass mobile companion app running on a mobile device connects to the selected caption source and sends the captions to the TranscribeGlass heads-up display via Bluetooth Low Energy. The captions are overlaid on to the user’s vision of the surrounding real-world environment in real-time. - What is the difference between TranscribeGlass Beta and TranscribeGlass (final version)?
TranscribeGlass Beta is the first limited release of TranscribeGlass and will be made available to early adopters who reserve the device on the website (https://www.transcribeglass.com/reserve) and agree to provide feedback as testers. They do not/should not expect the beta version of the product to be perfect.
In the final production-ready version of TranscribeGlass, all the bugs with the product and mobile app will have been ironed out and the feedback from the beta testers will have been incorporated into the product design. The price for the final version of TranscribeGlass is not fixed yet - I wear glasses - can I still use TranscribeGlass?
Yes, you should be able to use TranscribeGlass even if you wear glasses. TranscribeGlass is designed to clip on to the most commonly used spectacle frame temples. If you use glasses with specially designed frames (e.g. flexible/bendable frames, lightweight titanium frames on rimless glasses), you may not be able to attach TranscribeGlass to those frames. - I have an iOS device, can I purchase TranscribeGlass?
Yes, the TranscribeGlass Beta app will work on both iOS and Android. - What will be included in the box?
You will receive the TranscribeGlass Beta device, and optionally, a charging cable and empty spectacle frames. - Will I need to pay for Google's speech-to-text to use TranscribeGlass?
For the beta testing program, we will offer a certain number of free credit hours of Google's speech-to-text transcription time. - Which languages does TranscribeGlass support?
Any language that Google's speech-to-text supports that uses Roman/Latin alphabets is supported by TranscribeGlass Beta. - Can I cancel my order after placing it?
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to cancel your order for TranscribeGlass Beta after paying for it. It may be possible for you to change the shipping address. - Can I return the product and get a refund?
We will not be able to accept returns or process refunds for the TranscribeGlass Beta program. If the product breaks during the beta testing, we will make our best efforts to ship you another product but cannot guarantee a replacement product. - What is your shipping policy?
